Communications is Key
We’ve put together a quick list of things to do to prepare for your exciting new renovation project.
GET PHONE NUMBERS
Reliable communication with your contractor is going to be important. Get numbers straight and stored. Also consider time to call preferences so both parties can be set up for success.
TAKE PHOTOS
Take before, during and after pictures. It’s always fun to see transformation take place right before your very eyes.
CREATE A TIMELINE
Create a timeline with your contractor. Make sure it highlights dates and times for major project starts and completions. And always keep in mind that weather and unforeseen events may stall things out from time to time.
MANAGE YOUR VALUABLES
Depending upon the scope of work, it may be necessary to move your valuables off the property entirely. Garages may work for smaller projects.
MANAGE YOUR PETS
Make proper arrangements for your pets and children during any in-home renovation project. Doors and windows are often open. Tools and projects can be dangerous. Ideally, the work crews should have free and unrestricted access to the space to get work done as quickly as possible.
JOBSITE CLEANUP IS KEY!
Clean up. Make sure to determine who will be responsible for cleanup of the project. Dust if a factor on almost every project. And so is construction debris. Make sure you and your contractor are clear on who is responsible for what.
REFERRALS ARE IMPORTANT
If you’re happy and you know it, recommend your construction company to anyone who will listen.
